The Doria Pamphilj Gallery is one of Rome’s richest private art collections, housed in the Palazzo Doria Pamphilj with works by Raphael, Tintoretto, Brueghel, Titian, Caravaggio, Bernini and Velazquez.
Palazzo Doria Phampilj dates to the mid-15th century, but its current look was largely the work of the current owners, the Doria Phampilj family, who acquired it in the 18th century.
It is situated between Via del Corso and Via della Gatta.
The main collection is displayed in state rooms, including the chapel, complete with the mummified corpse of the family saint. However, the large part of the collection is displayed in a series of four gilded and painted galleries surrounding a courtyard.
Velazquez‘s Portrait of Innocent X is considered the collection’s masterpiece but look out for Salome with the head of John the Baptist and two Caravaggios: Rest during the flight into Egypt and Penitent Magdalen.
